What is ATE Tankers lead time to manufacture a road tanker?

ATE can manufacture a road tanker in 8 to 12-weeks from order placement.  Factors which affect manufacturing lead times are engineering design time, factory capacity and purchased equipment lead times (pumps, hose reels, etc).  Rigid mounted tankers can have longer lead times due to cab chassis availability.

If you have a requirement to purchase a new tanker, ATE recommends engaging with our sales team as early as possible to confirm operation requirements, procure long lead material and to schedule the design and build of your new road tanker.

Can ATE Tankers supply AS2809 Dangerous Goods road tankers?

ATE specialise in AS2809 dangerous goods compliance, supplying road fuel tankers complaint to AS2809.2 (flammable liquids) for over 25-years.  We also supply road tankers compliant with AS2809.4 (toxic and corrosive) and AS2809.5 (bitumen).

Each road tanker design must pass a rigorous regulatory approval process to verify compliance requirements including the submission of engineering Finite Element Analysis (FEA) studies.

Our engineers are active members of the AS2809 committee and committed to adapting the Standard to meet Australian requirements.

What standards apply to the transport of waste products?

Every Australian state and territory manages its own local environmental protection and pollution control through independent or state-run EPA bodies.  This includes defining requirements for the safe transport of waste in tanker vehicles and tanker trailers.

Waste products are classified using a risk-based framework with different class systems assigned to each waste product by each EPA body.
Road tanker design requirements such as tanker baffle construction, manholes, rear door opening and clamping points, shut off valves, coaming rails and AS2809 compliance may differ for each EPA body.

ATE Tankers can supply tankers complying to both AS2809 and EPA requirements for each state including the submission of EPA registrations.

How does ATE manufacture road tankers?

ATE Tankers has an engineering and manufacturing facility in Melbourne, Australia.

We manufacture road tankers from raw materials to the finished product.  Barrels are received as large flat sheets of aluminium or steel which are pressed into heads and baffles or rolled into barrels.  Running gear is fabricated from raw steel profiles.  Our fabricators have decades of experience in aluminium or steel welding and weld according to ATE certified weld procedures.  Each tanker goes through rigorous QA checks after completing each manufacturing stage.

The result – a certified Australian Made road tanker designed and built for Australian conditions.

What is the difference between a rigid tanker and trailer tanker?

Rigid tankers have the barrel mounted to the cab chassis by directly mounting to the chassis or mounting onto an interfacing ladder frame.  Rigid tankers are stand-alone solutions designed for specific applications and are often fitted with a ring feeder to tow a dog trailer. A typical rigid tanker barrel size is 3,000L to 15,000L.

Trailer tankers offer higher capacities for bulk material transport and can be configured in a variety of combinations from semi-trailers to combination A-doubles, B-doubles and road trains.  Semi-trailer barrel sizes range up to 45,000L with combinations carrying multiple semi-trailer barrels.

Each tanker can be equipped with pumping, metering, dispensing, vacuum loading, high pressure water jetting and barrel tipping systems specific to the operation.

Does ATE offer aftersales support?

Yes.  ATE Tankers has a major service and repair facility in Melbourne supported by our engineering and manufacturing operation.  We also have a national network of approved ATE service and repair centres.  We back our tankers throughout its life cycle.
